Moreover, this hymn is said to bestow purity of mind and dispassion, if chanted regularly at the dawn with the mind concentrating on the rising Sun.

The Aditya-Hrudayam hymn, which honours the Sun God, is referred to as the Heart of Aditya. The etymology of the term is beautifully explained in this site. The One (ayam) who is shining or residing in the heart is referred to by the word heart, or hridayam (hridi). Ad, which means “to enjoy” or “to see all sense objects” after entering the heart, is the root of the word “aditya.” Since the nature of the Heart of Aditya is the all-pervading Light of Consciousness, it is understood to be the inward and immovable witness of all thoughts, words, and deeds. One can achieve imperishableness, the utmost good, complete bliss, the cessation of all sins, problems, and sorrows, as well as a long life, by repeating this holy hymn every day.

So one should worship the rising Sun, who is revered by all devas and asuras, by all men and gods, as the bright Lord of the universe.

When one considers that Lord Rama himself was taught the Aditya Hridaya Stotram by the great sage Agastya at a crucial situation, one can see how significant Sun worship is. Sri Rama grew tense on the battlefield because of his struggle with Ravana and the resulting extreme exhaustion and weariness. At that point, Sage Agastya imparted the age-old knowledge by which all enemies—both internal and external—are vanquished.
